The Martin's Cove trail

From the LDS Visitors Center near Devil's Gate (the former Sun Ranch) there is a footbridge across the Sweetwater and a well-maintained trail to Martin's Cove. The hike is easy to moderate -- about four miles round trip with 250 feet of elevation gain.

This short trip to the cove was a considerable ordeal in the sub-zero weather of early November 1856. There was no bridge to cross the ice-banked Sweetwater then, and instead of a graded footpath there was only drifting snow and biting wind.
